Hello,
Years ago my mother went to a clinic in North Carolina, where she met Dik Browne. He drew her a personal Cartoon of Hagar the Horrible pointing to my Mother's weight goal, and we have that cartoon still even though we lost our Mother in 1999. I was sorry to hear Dik Browne passed on as well. Our sympathies.

February 1st, 2012.
Dear Mr. Chris Browne:
Would it be possible to obtain your permission to make two likenesses of Helga to be painted or printed in two magnetic (small) signs for use on the nose of my 1963 Swiss Army Cargo Mercedes Benz Unimog? The truck has been given the name of Helga, for often she (the truck) does behave like Hagar's wife, unpredictable and almost always demanding of attention. If you were to look up Unimog S404.114(Swiss) on YouTube, you would probably see the general resemblance. I am a US National Park Ranger and the truck has gotten to be quite a character in and out of my historic site.
Thanks Again,
Have a good evening!
Sincerely,
Kyle F. McGrogan |

This strip is also a big hit here in Brazil. It's published in various Brazilian newspapers (among them: "Folha de S. Paulo" and "Zero Hora").

I usually enjoy your cartoon, but today's one of Hagar addressing his battered friend in 'stages of a marriage' is just not okay. As a clinical counselor, I must say that domestic violence is never funny, and should not be minimized in cartoon form. Men are battered too; they are just too ashamed to report it. |

Love the cartoon! It's one of my favorites, due to my Swedish heritage :) And to the person looking for the "Glogg" cartoon, if it's the one from sometime in the 80s, I actually have it framed on my kitchen wall, courtesy of my Grampa who was also a Hagar fan--and enjoyed his glogg.... |
